Experience the Wealth of Fabulous Writing

Jude Jordan was born in 1936. She died in 2002, having published many poetry collections. The poem we are featuring is about the art of poetry, a beautiful capturing of the silent moments when poets search for reason to their words. "These Poems" is not published by Reward Publishing; we wanted to feature a poem by an African American in honor of Black History month.

These Poems

June Jordan - 1936-2002

These poems
they are things that I do
in the dark
reaching for you
whoever you are
and
are you ready?

These words
they are stones in the water
running away

These skeletal lines
they are desperate arms for my longing and love.

I am a stranger
learning to worship the strangers
around me

whoever you are
whoever I may become.
