MISDIAGNOSED

Racial hatred grows as
economic hardships
are misdiagnosed.
Judgement burns,
turns a small spark of
prejudice into a roaring
wave of violence
that consumes
and destroys
all that crosses
its path.

There will be no safety
found here tonight
as the crimson beast
stalks its prey,
chewing on
bones of contention—
leaving only
the black ash
of old hopes
and dreams
behind.
